APIC President Shigeie gives Speech to Rotary Club of South Tokyo
The speech went into detail about the scholarship fund, and touched on the club’s continuous support since the creation of the scholarship. He also mentioned that in addition to its donations, the club has also invited Xavier exchange students to their Oktoberfest and gave them the important chance to experience Japanese culture through taking part in the Japanese tea ceremony. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students have not been able to enter Japan for the past two years, forcing them to take online classes from their homes. This changed in April when international students were finally allowed entry into Japan, and a handful of students moved into their dorms and started their campus life at Sophia University. Towards the end of his speech President Shigeie gave the club a follow-up on the students who had graduated through the scholarship program.
APIC is putting in effort to improve its scholarship program in hopes that the youth from the Micronesia region who come to study in Japan will continue to maintain a strong bond with Japan through their experiences here.
